Does History Repeat Itself??

My heart was beating fast and loud...
The bowler charged in with the support of the cheering crowd...
I had to hit 4 runs in one ball to win...
My palms were wet like a fish’s fin!

I told myself, "You are playing for your motherland!"
But my mind retorted, "What if the ball broke your hand?"
I shut my ears to what my mind said...
Hoping that after this ball I wouldn’t be dead...

The delivery was of very good length...
And I smashed the ball with all my strength...
And then I shut my eyes and hoped we had won...
While all other eyes followed the ball in unison...

After 2 painful seconds, I heard the fielders jubilantly shout...
Without even opening my eyes, I knew I was out...
But all this had happened 2 years before...
But the situation was the same today, Oh! What a bore!

It was the very same bowler as well...
And the very same crowd yelled "Batsman! You go to hell!"
It was the same delivery of good length...
And once again I smashed the ball with all my strength!

This time for a change, I began to run...
But within moments, I was wishing I hadn’t done what I had done!
Because right in the middle of the pitch, I tripped and fell...
How much my jaws ached I just couldn’t tell!

Due to my stupidity I had let down my team...
And I wished all this would be just a bad dream!
I slowly got up and dusted my shirt...
And applied some spit on my burning hurt...

Whatever happened next I couldn’t believe...
But my defeated heart it did relieve...
My teammates came running and lifted me off my feet...
I thought I had gone crazy due to the heat!

They happily screamed, "Yahoo! We have won the match!"
"Because that very same fielder dropped the catch!"
"Put me down! Put me down!" I said...
I still had one unanswered question in my head!

"But I didn’t complete even one run, then how……??"
"The fielder gave an overthrow for 4 runs that’s how!"
I was just relieved and congratulated myself...
Well, HISTORY DOES NOT ALWAYS REPEAT ITSELF !!!!!
